Spring Trends Part I… Black & White

In what may have been the funniest, albeit truthful, article I have read last year, Bethany Rutter of the blog, Arched Eyebrow, ruminates about plus size bloggers being even better than small size bloggers because plus size bloggers have to be more creative to be stylish (read article here).  In the article, Rutter asserts that plus size bloggers are more adept at creating a look and style that is completely original because we lack style icons that look like and are shaped liked us.  Additionally, plus size bloggers do not have access to style trends as readily as smaller sized girls.  So much truth behind her words!

Although I agree wholeheartedly with Bethany, I have to challenge her assertion about plus-size women not having access to trends.  So, I asked several other plus size bloggers to participate in a challenge with me.  This month, as we await Spring and all the newness that accompanies it, Deb of Real Girl Runway, Vivi of Heart, Print, and Style, the CurvyCeo, Grown and Curvy Woman, andSociety of Curves have joined me in this challenge.  As bloggers with a focus on the curvy woman, we all have different perspectives in our style.  To test Bethany Rutter’s notion that curvy bloggers are all original and do not subscribe to a certain “style” we will use our blogs to prove or disprove her theory.  So once a week, we will tackle what fashion insiders have declared the new “trends” for Spring 2013.  Check here to see my take on the newest trends, but also check them out on their respective blogs!  If you want the plus-size world to see your take on these Spring 2013 trends, email your pics to girlsofplenty@gmail.com and I will post them for the world to see…

Week 1:  BLACK AND WHITE

These are all runways looks that I would absolutely wear. But, I have to say, this does not seem like a trend to me, as I have been a lover of ALL things Black & White my entire life.  Below, my interpretation of the huge black and white trend done “my way”. And…using items of clothing that are already in my closet, thank you very much.

Cons of this outfit:

first day of my cycle (tmi)

bloated

gained 20 lbs

eczema outbreak

I’m a mother, wife, teacher

I’m old

stretch marks

cellulite

Pros of this outfit:

I want to wear whatever the hell I want to wear*

*This pro ALWAYS outweighs ANY cons…
